wireless router gigabit switch

Is it worth it to switch from a wireless g to a wireless n router?
I am going to get a laptop which has intel centrino technology and has a wireless n card in it. I currently have a wireless g router and I know I can’t make the most of the centrino with this router so it it worth it?
I found one on ebay and am thinking of buying it:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Engenius-Wireless-N-Gigabit-Router-ESR-9710_W0QQitemZ320324420414QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_Networking_SM?hash=item320324420414&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
will this router work with the laptop and will it work with my Xbox 360?
and also – what does it mean when it says “gigabit” router?
Thanks alot!
If i had a fairly bad broadband package would it still make much of a difference with the router?
Even G router is still faster than the fastest “high-speed” Internet (FIOS from Verizon), so you won’t get faster Internet. What N protocol gives you is more reliable signal, longer distance and faster local networking.
As for Xbox 360 – I think it only supports G flavor, which means your router, even if it’s N-compatible will auto-switch to G anyway. Router can only work in one mode.
“Gigabit” in regards to router means wired connection speed between router and computer is 1Gb (1 Gigabit/sec), about 20 times faster than G WiFi.
If you don’t host LAN parties – you do not need to upgrade your network to N.
P.S. Centrino is not a technology, it’s a packaging. Basically it’s Motherboard + CPU + WiFi adapter package from Intel.

LSI listing of new media and communications processor baseband processor and link
Beijing News-LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced the launch of a new generation of links and communications processors (LCP), designed to allow network traffic to migrate to IP networks. LCP is not only the LSI ™ Multi-Service Processor family of products the important additional members, but also non-symmetric multi-core processors, LSI product family, a key component of the infrastructure that supports wireless communication between any devices.
The new LCP is a non-symmetric multi-core System on Chip (SoC), built on the LSI great success based on the link layer processor can support all major protocols, allowing the wireless, mobile backhaul, multi-service, routers, and broadband Access flow easily and efficiently from the existing time-division multiplexing (TDM) network migration to next-generation Ethernet and Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network, and compared with previous-generation solutions, the flow of migration costs and risk of significantly reduced.
LCP uses dedicated on-chip programmable core, able to wire-speed implementation of multi-protocol processing, which includes a multi-core ARM processor, can manage the data plane applications and run customer-specific application code. LCP integrated Gigabit Ethernet interface provides excellent connectivity, direct access to wide area network (WAN) uplinks. In addition, LCP’s network speeds from T1/E1 to extend STM-1/OC-3, the network only need to carry out a development OEM manufacturers will be able to meet all the major business and performance levels of demand.
LSI Products Division, multi-service network components, director of marketing ShaneGunning pointed out: “Run in the current high-level network protocols and applications require a complex combination of highly integrated multi-core SoC and proven software. Our latest generation of LCP for the OEM manufacturers to provide Efficient and scalable unified platform, enabling them to build coverage of 2G, 3G and 4G networks, multi-service base stations and controllers. ”
In wireless applications, LCPSoC support BTS (2G) and the NodeB (3G) traffic to a BSC (2G) and RNC (3G) controller return. Similarly, the latest multi-core LCP support the entire cable network, a variety of standard protocol packet transmission. As the LCP has a unique protection switching and hot-start feature, even if the system intentionally or unintentionally, restart, LCP will continue to run, thereby minimizing the result of system or network card failure caused downtime.
LSI has been in this year’s GSMA World Mobile Communications Conference (GSMAMobileWorldCongress) showed off its wireless solution. It is learned that, LSI will be a new link-layer communication processor in March 2010 sampling.
As MulticoreDoneRightTM integrated part of the program, the latest LSI networking products for wireless infrastructure applications, has brought industry-leading solution.
